See these example money problems; it will help you to how to do money problems.

Ex 1: Latia has $5810. She has 25 more ten dollar bills than fifty dollar bills and 10 fewer hundred dollar bills than fifty dollar bills. How many of each dollar bills does she have?

Sol:

Let x = number of fifty dollar bills

(x + 25) = number of ten dollar bills

(x - 10) = number of hundred dollar bills

50x + 10(x + 25) + 100(x - 10) = 5810

50x + 10x + 250 + 100x  - 1000 = 5810

160x = 5810 + 750

160x = 6560

x = 41

Therefore Latia has 41 fifty dollar bills, 66 ten dollar bills, and 31 hundred dollar bills.

Ex 2: Ford has $3600. In that there are some fifty and hundred dollar bills. There are 12 more fifty dollar bills than hundred dollar bills. How many bills of each kind he has?

Sol:

Let hundred dollar bills = x and fifty dollar bills = x + 12.

100(x) + 50(x + 12) = 3600

100(x) + 50x + 600 = 3600

150x = 3600 - 600

150x = 3000

x = 20

x + 12 = 32

Therefore Ford has 20 hundred dollar bills and 32 fifty dollar bills.
