Volume is how much three-dimensional space a substance (solid, liquid, gas, or plasma) or shape occupies or contains, often quantified numerically using the SI derived unit, the cubic metre. (Source - Wikipedia)
The volume of cylinder and cone can be easily calculated using the formulas.
In this article of volume cylinder cone, we are going to discuss about finding volume of cylinder and volume of cone using their respective formulas.

Volume of Cylinder:
Formula:
Volume of cylinder = `pi` r2 h cubic units.
where r ----> radius of cylinder
h ----> height of cylinder
Example problems:
Example 1:
Find the volume of cylinder given the radius is 10 cm and height is 14 cm
Solution:
Volume of cylinder = `pi` r2 h cubic units
= (3.14) * 102 * 14
= 3.14 * 100 * 14
= 4396 cm3
Example 2:
Find the volume of cylinder given the radius is 13 cm and height is 15 cm
Solution:
Volume of cylinder = `pi` r2 h cubic units
= (3.14) * 132 * 15
= 3.14 * 169 * 15
= 7959.9 cm3
Practice problems:
1) Find the volume of cylinder given the radius is 7 cm and height is 9.25 cm
Answer: 1423.21 cm3
2) Find the volume of cylinder given the radius is 13 cm and height is 17.25 cm
Answer: 9153.89 cm3
Volume of Cone:
Formula:
Volume of cone = 1/3 `pi` r2 h cubic units
where r ----> radius of cone
h ----> height of cone
Example problems:
Example 1:
Find the volume of cone given the radius is 8 cm and height is 13 cm.
Solution:
Volume of cone = 1/3 `pi` r2 h cubic units.
= 1/3 (3.14) * 82 * 13
= 0.33 * 3.14 * 64 * 13
= 870.83 cm3
Example 2:
Find the volume of cone given the radius is 21 cm and height is 24 cm.
Solution:
Volume of cone = 1/3 `pi` r2 h cubic units.
= 1/3 (3.14) * 212 * 24
= 0.33 * 3.14 * 441 * 24
= 10967.14 cm3
