How to Make Octagon

In geometry, an octagon is a polygon that has eight sides. A regular octagon has all sides the same length and its internal angles are all the same size.

• It has eight lines of reflective symmetry
• Its rotational symmetry is of order 8
• Internal angle is 135°

It is easy to make octagon. To make a octagon, a pencil, a protractor, a compass and a scale is needed. How to make regular octagon:

Step 1: First step is to draw a circle using compass
                                      
Step 2: Mark the center point and top point on the circle
                                       
Step 3: We know that a circle has 360 degree and octagon has 8 sides.
Step 4: Divide the circle degree (360) by octagon sides(8), we get 360/8 = 45 degree.
Step 5: Line up the center point and top point using protractor.
                                       
Step 6: Mark 45 degree in the protractor from the top point.
                                      
Step 7: Repeat the same procedure for the eight corners and get eight points.
                                       
Step 8: Connect all eight points using scale as shown in the below figure.

How to make octagon from square:

Steps are given below to show how to make octagon from a square.
Step 1: Make a square
Step 2: Draw the diagonals between the corners and find its center.
Step 3: Place the compass in one corner and place the pencil at center, draw an arc, it cuts the two adjacent edges. Mark that point.
Step 4: Repeat the same procedure for three corners.
Step 5: Now draw the diagonals lines between the marked edges to get octagon.
