Online Permutation and Combination Tutor


Permutations are known as an arrangement of things. The word arrangement is used, if the order of things is measured. Combination is a choice of things or objects or any other from a collection. In combination order of stuff is unrelated. Online is one of the major sources used by most of the students since it can access whenever the students need help. Tutor is a personality working in the education of others, either independently or in group.

Permutation formula: P (n, r) = (n!)/((n-r)!)

Combination formula: C (n, r) = (n!)/(r!(n-r)!)

Where, n gives number of stuffs, and r gives number of times.

In how many ways can 3 shirts be arranged from among 13 pens?

Solution:

This problem involves 13 shirts, chosen 3 at a time.

Permutation formula: P (n, r) = (n!)/((n-r)!)

Here, n = 13, r = 3

P (13, 3) = (13!)/((13-3)!)

= (13 * 12 * 11 * 10)/(10!)

= 1716

There are 1716 possible ways to arrange 3 shirts from among 13 shirts.

In a bag there are 12 pens. In how many ways can 5 pens be chosen from a bag?

Solution:

This problem involves 12 pens, chosen 5 at a time.

Combination formula: C (n, r) = (n!)/(r(n-r)!) ,

Here n = 12, r = 5

C(12, 5) = (12!)/(5!(12-5)!)

= (12 * 11 * 10 * 9 * 8) /(5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1 )

= 792

Therefore in 792 different ways can 5 pens be chosen from 12 pens.

Calculate the number of permutations and combinations; n = 14, r = 4.

Solution:

Permutation: P (n, r) = (n!)/((n-r)!)

Combination: C (n, r) = (n!)/(r(n-r)!)

Here, n = 14, r = 4.

P (14, 4) = (14!) /((14- 4)!)

= (14 * 13 * 12 * 11 * 10)/(10!)

= 24024

C(14, 4) = (14!)/(4(14-4)!)

= 1001

Therefore permutations = 24024, combination = 1001
